Tour Details

Overview of Tour:

Growing up, almost every Irish person was told some kind of ghost story, passed from generation to generation as mythical folklore, forever steeped in unnerving mystery. These stories always arise around the time of Samhain (Sow-en) – the Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or “darker-half” of the year. It is held on 1 November but  celebrations begin on the evening of 31 October, which is where Halloween came from! Ireland has a long, bloody history which naturally means that you can stumble upon haunted locations all over the Country! From Irish castles visited by murdered spirits to haunted Irish pubs and dark scary crypts – Ireland has some stellar haunted spots riddled with a haunting history – we’ve included some of our favorites for you within this 7/11 day tour, interspersed with some ‘must see’ attractions also so you get to experience the best of both Worlds!

Itinerary

Day 1 - Overnight Dublin

Highlights:

  • Guinness Storehouse
  • Trinity College and the Book of Kells
  • Hell Fire Club
  • Malahide Castle
  • Haunted Pub Crawl
  • The Brazen Head

First stop – Dublin! Take in the Hell Fire Club if the history isn’t too much for you! Another spooky favorite in our office to visit around the time of Samhain is Malahide Castle! The only thing more tragic than a sad clown? A murdered jester. At the end of a day of paranormal adventuring, what would a pint in Dublin’s oldest pub – the Brazen Head –  be without a ghost or two for company?

Day 2 - Overnight Kilkenny

Highlights:

  • Kilkenny Castle
  • Medieval City of Kilkenny
  • River Nore
  • Kyteler’s Inn
  • Kilkenny Ghost Tours

On to Kilkenny! Kilkenny, with its narrow cobbled lanes, remnants of its city walls and mystic charm has been declared one of the top five most haunted places in Europe. Keep your eyes peeled for creepy figures in the River Nore that rise above the mist in the early morning. Take in a ghost tour that evening or retire for drinks with the spirits of Petronella or Dame Alice in Kyteler’s Inn!

Day 3 & 4 - Overnight Cork

Highlights:

  • Blarney Castle and The Witch’s Stone
  • Spike Island
  • Charles Fort Kinsale
  • Kinsale Ghost Tour

Next, Cork! The Blarney Castle has always been a must on any Irish itinerary and of course, the stone of Eloquence, known to give those who kiss it, the ‘gift of the gab’. However, if visiting on a paranormal mission, there is  another stone on the property which will pique your interest! A visit to the abandoned jail on Spike Island is also a must! Visit Charles Fort- the story of the White Lady is the one that really chills the blood. That evening, why not take the Kinsale Ghost Tour – This tour is light hearted and slapstick – the perfect release from a heavy day of paranormal adventuring!

Day 5 - Overnight Clare

Highlights:

  • Cliffs of Moher
  • Doolin Village and Pubs
  • Leamaneh Castle
  • Carrigaholt Castle

Your next destination is Clare! Clare has an air of mystery about it that the landscape and Atlantic Coast contributes to! Visit Leamaneh Castle to learn about Red Mary –  if a servant were foolish enough to displease her, they would be hung out of one of the castle windows! Journey out to Carrigaholt Castle –  Visit at your own peril!

Day 6 - Overnight Sligo

Highlights:

  • Benbulben
  • Rosses Point Beach
  • Seaforth House

Traveling along the Wild Atlantic Way, your next haunting stop is Sligo and Seaforth House where violent poltergeist activity was reported and sightings of a dark and menacing figure on the staircase. Sometimes the manifestation was so violent the house shook to its very foundations!

Day 7 - Overnight Derry

Highlights:

  • Museum of Free Derry
  • Derry City Walls
  • Ulster Folk Museum
  • St. Columb’s Cathedral

Derry is not only the fourth-largest city on the lush green island of Ireland but it is also the oldest, with documentation of the city going back to the 6th century. St Columb’s Cathedral and the disturbed spirit of Bishop William Higgins will keep you enthralled here!

Day 8 & 9 - Overnight Belfast

Highlights:

  • Giants Causeway (en-route)
  • Carrick a Rede Ropebridge (en-route)
  • North Antrim Coast
  • Ballygally Castle
  • Crumlin Road Gaol

Time to travel down the North Antrim Coast to Belfast. En-route, it would be a shame not to visit one of Ireland’s natural wonders with a trip to the Giant’s Causeway. Said to be one of the most haunted places in all of Ulster, the picturesque Ballygally Castle is haunted by several ghosts!

Day 10 - Overnight Meath

Highlights:

  • Bru na Boinne Visitor Centre
  • Megalithic Tombs of Newgrange
  • Boyne Valley

Your final day in Ireland – time to head back East to enjoy some of Meath’s stunning attractions! This is your final opportunity in Ireland to enter the realm of the supernatural ! The place you’re looking for is called “Ross Castle”, overlooking Lough Sheelin, one of Ireland’s preeminent midland lakes. Learn about the bad-tempered Black Baron (just ask us about the loaf of bread story!) and his ill-fated broken hearted daughter Sabina! That evening, after a trip filled with the haunted and paranormal, enjoy your final night in Ireland!
