Overview of this tour:

Ireland is a wee Country with a massive history! No matter what your historical tastes or interests may be, there is something to satisfy every appetite for times gone by. Be it the Neolithic Period, the Famine and Emigration period of the 1800s, the troublesome battle Ireland experienced to gain its independence from Britain and 1916 Rising – Ireland’s sometimes heartbreaking history is like a good book you just can’t put down! This tour like many of our other tours has the option of 10 or 14 days (to also include the North) or you can travel counterclockwise – all of our tours can be entirely customized! Traveling with your very own private Driver/Guide, you’ll get to visit historical locations you may not otherwise have heard of! Your Driver will be born and bred Irish and will be all to happy to share the history of our beautiful Island with you as you travel!

Day 1 & 2: Overnight Dublin

Dublin is a wonderful, energetic city in which no matter what stone you turn, you are sure to unearth some history!  What makes Dublin a beautiful city is the mish-mash of many different periods of time and architecture styles it exhibits. Take in Trinity College and the Book of Kells, visit the National Museum of Ireland, EPIC Museum shows why Irishness is celebrated around the world, with a journey through Irish history & culture, told from the perspective of those who lived through it!

Day 4 & 5: Overnight Kerry

The marvellous County of  Kerry has been referred to as ‘The Kingdom’ dating right back to the 1st century AD when the O’Connor chieftain Ciar took control of the territory between the Shannon estuary and the Maine river in the south. The Ring of Kerry and Killarney National Park cannot be missed but some notable historical attractions while you’re visiting would be Derrynane House, Molly Gallivan’s Visitor Centre and the Blasket Island Centre!

Day 6: Overnight Clare

Day 7 & 8: Overnight Galway

Similar to the Bunratty Banquet, Dungaire offers a Banquet evening where you can enjoy delicious food and incredible entertainment!

It is worth noting that those who wish to do the 10 day Historical Ireland tour would head back over to Meath after your two night stay in Galway and enjoy your final overnight stay in County Meath! Of course – the itinerary is completely customizable so if you have something else in mind, just let us know!

Day 9: Overnight Mayo

Beautiful Mayo! Settle in Westport Heritage Town. This beautiful town is situated on the shores of Clew Bay, next to Croagh Patrick. This is a special town because it is one of the few planned settlements in the country. It was designed by James Wyatt during the Gregorian period. To entirely immerse yourself in Irish history, pay a visit to the Famine Memorial at Murrisk. Follow the path of many Irish and foreign travelers up the Croagh Patrick mountain. It has been the final destination for many pilgrims that want to pay tribute to Saint Patrick!

DAY 10: Overnight Donegal

Time to get medieval! Visit the marvelous Donegal Castle, right in the middle of Donegal town. Be dazzled by the Grianán Hill and its beautiful stone circle. You’ll get swept away with Donegal’s beauty and history!

DAY 11: Overnight Derry

Derry is not only the fourth-largest city on the lush green island of Ireland but it is also the oldest, with documentation of the city going back to the 6th century. There is no better place to immerse yourself in the history of this once troubled City than in the Museum of Free Derry. A humble and simple display, the Museum exhibits many interesting artifacts from Bloody Sunday and its aftermath.

DAY 12: Overnight Belfast
